I have to replace my TV

But I’m not looking forward to it. So I thought I’d ask you
folks what you’d suggest.

I’m replacing a 35" CRT tv. I like that I could leave it on all
day (for the cats) and it worked just fine (until it died of course.)

Nothing too extreme, that I can hook up to my DVD/VCR player.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to go to the local thrift stores and see about
a second hand set.

Suggestions?

Forget the thrift store - ya never know if has something wrong and odds are it has demons

I would get a 40 inch at least which is what I have - Samsung is pretty good

Here is one I found you may like - if you don’t want to spend that you can find lower for sure

ya cud go to walmart or targets and choose in person

If you’re comfortable with the limited capabilities of a CRT unit you might be able to buy one at the pawnshop or second hand store pretty cheap, and you can pretty well check it out before you buy. We kept our 27 inch Sony forever and only replaced it a couple of years ago when Gypsy won a 42 inch plasma TV in an office drawing. It was from Walmart, an Element made in China, and it turned out not to really have a digital receiver so it still needed a cable box. It also turned out to have cheezy speakers, so I rigged some bookshelf speakers I had, and an amp, to give it a better sound for music. But that TV was probably about 400 bucks plus all the aggravation of finding enough space for it.

It’s okay aside from those issues, though. Has most of yer “smart” TV features like being Chromecast capable, Hulu capable, etc.

I don’t need a smart tv. That’s what my computer is for.

But I doubt I’ll get anything bigger than I’m replacing.
I just don’t have the room for it. I still have to lug the
dead tv out.

Honestly, if there was someone local who did repairs,
I’d go that route. I got this thing for $45 and it did everything
I needed without any hassles.

I wouldn’t bother, but my 19" is so old (20+ years?)
that it argues with my DVD player.

LOL

Craigslist has tons of free tv’s here - and I think everywhere

cause ya pay to dispose of it sometimes - if they don’t have free take day

Aren’t there privacy issues with the smart TV’s?

Yeah, fucking google will know what POL’s cats are watching -

Speaking of POLcats… where’s POL’s avatar?

Has anyone tried a poll or an avatar contest?

I don’t have a smart TV per sey, but it connects to my WiFi and has a Netflix and Amazon Video button on the controller
I use my Xbox for Hulu, Blu-Ray/DD and other such things.

You can find a decently big non-small TV that still has good options and it’ll be smaller than a conventional CRT type TV… you’ll just h as ve to pay for it, but prices are always dropping. 1080p LCD TVs are now old tech.

The problem then becomes upgrading everything else, though
New TVs don’t have the traditional 3 plug input (yellow red and white plugs), they strictly go by HDMI, bluetooth or other preloaded software.

coulda stopped there mang

Yu cud convert HDMI to 3 plug

More technology you’d have to buy, of course

:roll_eyes:It’d be funnier if that was original.

Yeah, I bet you hear that waaay too often. Sorry Bromo. I think you’re a good egg.

Why I’m smart about some stuff, ignorant about other stuff. Hardly stupid.
Doubt Wabbit can change the heads on a car, doesn’t make him stupid. Just ignorant.
:thinking::man_shrugging:t2:

Uninterested, so wilfully ignorant.

You are wilfully ignorant, yes.

About car maintenance, without question.
