I think she likes me!
We need some diversity up in here.
Lordy, don’t make me pull my Mexican music back in.

I love the lie and lie the love
A-Hangin’ on, with push and shove
Possession is the motivation
That is hangin’ up the God-damn nation
Looks like we always end up in a rut (everybody now!)
Tryin’ to make it real, compared to what? C’mon baby!
Slaughterhouse is killin’ hogs
Twisted children killin’ frogs
Poor dumb rednecks rollin’ logs
Tired old lady kissin’ dogs
Hate the human, love that stinking mutt (I can’t stand it!)
Try to make it real, compared to what? C’mon baby now!
The President, he’s got his war
Folks don’t know just what it’s for
Nobody gives us rhyme or reason
Have one doubt, they call it treason
We’re chicken-feathers, all without one nut. God damn it!
Tryin’ to make it real, compared to what? (Sock it to me)
Church on Sunday, sleep and nod
Tryin’ to duck the wrath of God
Preacher’s fillin’ us with fright
They all tryin’ to teach us what they think is right
They really got to be some kind of nut (I can’t use it!)
Tryin’ to make it real, compared to what?
Where’s that bee and where’s that honey?
Where’s my God and where’s my money?
Unreal values, crass distortion
Unwed mothers need abortion
Kind of brings to mind ol’ young King Tut (He did it now)
Tried to make it real, compared to what?!
Tryin’ to make it real, compared to what?
I’ve been practicing Seven Nation Army on my Cruise Liner, what do you guys think?

Here’s a golden oldie pop ditty that examines the futility of love.

an intense post punk moderate hit from my college days.
Flea does a Hendrix-esque Nati Anthem on yer bass guitar before a Sportsball game.
That was great, and I’m surprised I don’t remember hearing of these guys before.

Not much is known about Freddy, not even his birth and death dates…and there are only one or two pics of him on the web. He had good street cred in the biz, and some good chops. The clip above is from 1935.
His best known work in the modern era is a handful of sides he recorded in 1936, sitting in with the QHCF, of which this is my favorite because of Joseph Reinhardt’s excellent rhythm guitar work. They say Freddy learned singing primarily from Satchmo.

Not sure what the deal is with YT embeds, apparently @Sindy will have to revisit that.
I heard Django & Stephane’s cover of Blue Drag years ago but I never thought it was a gypsy piece. However, it’s been assimilated into the Manouche jazz idiom thanks to Django I guess.
Turns out it was written by a Russo-American named Josef Myrow in 1931, recorded twice the following year by Earl Hines & his orchestra and (with lyrics) by the Washboard Rhythm Kings although I’m not sure who wrote the lyrics. No denying it’s got great horn hooks by the time Freddy recorded it. And it seems like everybody has covered it by now. One more try, with a Nawlins accent. God, I wish Tuba Skinny would cover it.
Wherein Randy Newman ponders the healing powers of love.

Fun fact, I was taking a creative writing class at a Community College (That’s like college lite, for you pommie basterds) I went out drinking the night before it was due…I get home throw this record on remember my paper due the next day, and when this song played I thought aha, there’s my story…so I flesh it out a bit, turn it in…and the milfy Teacher just about gave me head right in the classroom…“You have skills Apeman!” She gushed wantonly…
Switched servers/IP addresses, looks like the YouTube embeds are fixed, hopefully other issues are as well.
